ACROBATIC
ARTS
PROGRAM

AcroDance or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. Acro's roots are in traditional Chinese dance, later appearing as a favored style on the Vaudeville stage. More recently, acro gained popularity with the widespread success of the contemporary circus productions of Cirque du Soleil. Mainstream media including dance television program like, "So You Think You Can Dance", "America's Best Dance Crew", and "Dance Moms" have further fueled its demand in amateur competitive dance and studio settings.

Our ATD Acrobatic Arts program is split into four levels, each focusing on their own set of benchmarks. Benchmarks for each of our four acro levels include skills based on strength, flexibility, balancing, limbering, and tumbling. In order to create strong, flexible, and healthy acro dancers, it is crucial that they have a strong foundation with all of the building blocks necessary. As such, dancers will be required to complete all of the benchmarks for their current level before they are permitted to move to the next.
